Once your business is formed, you will need to get all of the required Federal, State and local government licenses, zoning information and tax identification numbers for your business. You should call 704-336-6315 for a business license if your business is in Charlotte and most of its surrounding areas, except for Matthews (call 704-847-4411) and for Pineville (call 704-889-2291.)

The Mecklenburg County Zoning office phone number is 704-336-3569. You should also call the North Carolina Department of Commerce which operates the Business Service Center with Business License Information for the State of North Carolina and it can be reached at 919-715-2864 or toll free at 800-228-8443 to assist you in determining what state licenses are required for the business activities of your company.

You will need to acquire a Federal Tax Identification Number, but please note that this does not include a tax identification number for the State of North Carolina. In North Carolina, you will also need a state tax identification number if you hire employees or sell products causing the company to owe sales taxes.

Estate Law

Focus Areas:
Probate Law / Wills + Trusts

Probate Law. When a loved one or friend leaves us for a better place, we can be asked to settle the estate. This involves working with the court system to complete the necessary filing and notifications, collecting and balancing accounts, sale of property (both personal and real) and accounting to the court for all the work. The law considers you as a fiduciary to the estate, you are held responsible for any mistakes in the court documents.

Sometimes this is not a "go it alone" matter. Legal help can be invaluable in saving you time, money, and personal exposure. We can let you know, at a no cost and no pressure initial meeting, if we can help. We handle all of the court filings, and assist you with estate asset management. You can be assured that the estate will be handled properly.

Wills and Trusts. If you need a Will or Trust to pass on your assets to a loved one, friend or charity, we can give you the advice you need to make the correct choices. Tax law and estate administration laws both play an important role in how you distribute your assets in death. We can guide you through this process. Again, we offer a no cost, no pressure initial meeting.
